Do you find yourself stressed out by all that Los Angeles traffic? How about the sorry state of your city’s basketball team? Where’s the Kobe beef? All these things add up and can add high amounts of stress to your already busy life. This is what’s grinding modern men and women into the espresso of doom, to be bought and sold by our nation’s elite “baristas.” Well I’m here to tell you that it doesn’t have to end this way. You can take control of your life or your smartphone’s life app and change directions. I’m talking about therapy, but not the kind where you sit on a long couch, divulging your life story to a mustachioed Austrian intellectual. I’m talking about the alternative therapy of acupuncture, which has been shown to greatly reduce stress, among many other benefits. Stress can impact our physiology in many ways. It can manifest itself in tense muscles, which can lead to aches or chronic pain, and it can even become more severe, leading to hair loss and infertility. Acupuncture takes great strides in eliminating these problems for many people. In Los Angeles, acupuncture and fertility go hand in hand. When we think of super star actors and actresses suddenly appearing to have a small army of young children, we usually chalk it up to current adoption trends and fashions. But more often than not, what’s propelling this proliferation of pint sized people is a network of stress relief that was once only available to the Hollywood elite. Acupuncture is now available to everyone and at reasonable prices. It only makes sense that we Californians enjoy the wonderful and enriching bounty of alternative therapies that our royal families have enjoyed for many years. It’s time that we take advantage of all the stress relieving resources that are available to us and change our lives for the better. We all know Kobe isn’t doing it for us.

These days it’s harder to be “proud to be American” than it once was. Sure, there are hundreds, thousands, and maybe even millions of reasons to be happy to be an American. But not billions. Billions belong to the billionaires, which coincidentally, is what makes it so hard to be proud of the stars and stripes. Do you catch my drift? Well, allow me to phrase it this way: the economy stinks. The middle class is definitely not what it used to be. There are many reasons for this. Too many to fit in a blog post, that’s for sure. But just to skim the surface, corporate greed and the government’s willingness to enable it is what forms the base of the economic pyramid of sadness. The best things to do are to find ways to live amid the chaos in hopes of eventually pulling ourselves out of it. For most, that means tightening the budget. For others, the budget is already long gone. One thing that should be avoided at all costs is self pity. We as individuals are not to blame for the current economic situation. The lead-up to this mass unemployment was largely out of our control. And unfortunately, a common side effect of unemployment is self loathing, which can lead to isolation from friends, which can soon spiral into a vicious cycle of self-fulfilling prophecy. How can one find any hope when one has isolated him or herself from the very people that can provide it? This must be avoided at all costs. Affordable housing, food, and medical services have always been Americans’ top priorities. Unfortunately, many often find themselves looking for affordable addiction treatment. This too should be avoided at all costs, but the reality is that many of us don’t have the mental fortitude to weather such extreme losses. And following close on the heels of sadness is escape from the pain via controlled substances. If it gets to that point, you must try to think about all the downtrodden Americans that came before you and find it in yourself to do what they all most certainly did. Soldier on with your best foot forward in hopes to rediscover the pride in your country.

Get your backflow tested by a certified backflow tester.
First off, do we have a thorough understanding of backflow? That’s okay, it isn’t like we have to take backflow 101 in college and it certainly does not come up in everyday conversation, but knowing what backflow is and knowing why you should prevent it from occurring is important. So the definition of backflow can vary, but generally speaking backflow is the reversal of liquid (sometimes gas or solids) that occurs when high pressure meets low pressure, commonly described as what happens when you sip liquid through a straw. This backpressure can take what you are trying to get out your house (toilet water, dirty dish water, pool water, etc.) and bring it back into your house. This reversal of contaminated water into your potable water is kind of a big deal and you really do not want this to occur.
Having a backflow prevention device, yes a device that’s prime focus is to prevent this from happening, will save you, your family, your customers, your tenants and yourself from the health hazards and all around disgusting experience of this occurring. However, just having a backflow prevention device does not get you off the hook that easy because this special device has to be tested to make sure it is working properly. This backflow prevention device is actually legally required to be checked on a yearly basis.
Backflow is a serious issue and contaminated water can have the potential to affect many people if not dealt with correctly. Now you may think kicking the thing a few times is enough to be considered checked and ready to go, but it actually needs to be checked by a certified backflow tester in Los Angeles or whatever area you live in or own a commercial building in. Maintain your backflow prevention device and you are good to go.

It may be a bit dramatic to say that playgrounds have been revolutionized but we can definitely say that playgrounds are not what they used to be, and it may not be such a bad thing. We like to reminisce how great our childhood was and how we actually had real life friends and real life adventures, not that virtual experience that kids have these days. When we ran we weren’t in our living rooms running in place with a controller in our hand and when we fell we didn’t just lose points. When we played we got hurt and we still have the scars to prove it. This one on my elbow right here, this is from falling off the top of the monkey bars and this one is from jumping off the swing. Do kids even get scars these days?
Well the answer is no, but not because when they play they play in front of a screen, but because playgrounds are a lot safer than they used to be. Instead of a playground made of dirty sand and metal bars it’s practically a rubber playground. Basically instead of having sand, wood chips or any other type of playground surfacing, more and more playgrounds are using rubber chips. These rubber looking wood chips are being used at preschools, public parks and private backyards.
Rubber Bark is the safest kind of playground surfacing that is actually shock absorbent. Not only is it made from recycled tire scraps and is non-toxic, it actually lasts longer than other materials that are usually used for playgrounds. This rubber mulch is fade resistant and does not absorb water or harbor insects of any sort. Rubber Bark playground material requires very low maintenance and looks amazing. You may miss the good old days of scraped knees but these new playgrounds really will impress you.

Many of us spend our whole lives searching for the right way to achieve inner wellness. We are often mislead to think that involves a quick solution or treatment that instantly cures. Unfortunately, there is a whole industry built around this misconception that makes its profits off of the trust of people who are genuine in their search for answers.
It takes many trials and errors to discover what inner wellness means, and for each person it may mean something different. For some, inner wellness comes from helping others and spreading their efforts toward the greater good of humankind. Healers and teachers are some examples of people who achieve wellness by helping others. Alternatively, it could mean looking inward through practicing ancient methods such as yoga and meditation. Intense introspective is viewed as selfishness by some, but this trait can lead to greater awareness and a strength of character that benefits more than the individual.
In contrast to conventional Western practices, inner wellness methods treat the body as interconnected with the mind. If one is neglected the negative effect will be felt on the other as well. Acknowledging the interconnectedness of the mind and body is a big part of alternative health practices and what leads so many to practice them. The process to achieving this kind of health can take anywhere from a year to a decade depending on the individual. Teaching yourself patience, discipline, and strength takes time but will last a lifetime once they are acquired and understood. That is the biggest difference between alternative medicine and traditional health treatments. Western views of health focus on treating symptoms after they arise, most often with medication or surgeries, to provide the quickest result. Alternative methods focus on treating the cause and also emphasize maintaining wellness so that the body is protected from illnesses.

You’ve made the life changing decision to quit drugs and alcohol, now it;s time to find the right treatment for your addiction. Recovery takes a lot of hard work and focus. Making sure you enter into the kind of treatment facility that’s going to be the most supportive is important to getting started. Once you’ve chosen a facility, there are a few different types of recovery to choose from.
Inpatient drug rehab centers are great for patients who need 24 hour care and focus on recovery. An inpatient program gives you access to medical care anytime and is a good choice for those who may have health problems from heavy use of drugs or alcohol. Inpatient is effective for those who need to focus all their energy on recovery, as there are no outside distractions or temptations. Many first time rehab patients choose inpatient and then move on to other programs when they’re ready.
Once a patient feels they are ready to leave a 24 hour facility, treatment continues in other ways that allow time to return to previous life commitments such as school, career, and family. Outpatient treatment continues to give a patient support as they apply what they’ve learned in treatment to real life situations. Recovery is a long process, but that doesn’t mean giving up is an option. There is always going to be support when you need it, whether it be through the people you met in rehab, your doctor or therapist, or your family. In the end, you will learn how to cope with life without relying on drugs or alcohol. Living life sober will give you a whole new outlook on life.

As we enter the new century we are dealing with issues that have been pertinent for a while, but with the ever-increasing technological revolution it is becoming more and more difficult to deal with competing influences. Addiction to television sounds like a joke at first mention, but it is certainly a real deal issue that is plaguing the youth of today. So many children are battling television addiction and with all the programs and videogames that are available it is no wonder that we are a culture that has its face glued to the tube. Dealing with these issues is not easy, especially since we are all creatures of comfort. It is not at all uncommon for individuals to feel comforted by escaping into the false reality that television programs offer. The realism is becoming more and more pertinent, and can certainly play a large factor in how we are getting sucked into programs that are engulfing our lives. There are ways to deal with this issue, and they are all common sense alternatives. We can all practice these on a daily basis because they are not difficult to accomplish at all, and in fact are a much more healthy way to live life.
Here are a few statistics to put this situation into perspective:
- An average American watches more than 4 hours of television a day.
- 99% of all households possess at least one television.
- 66% of all American homes have 3 or more television sets.
- Television is on 6 hours and 45 minutes in an average American household.
- 250 billion hours of television are watched annually by Americans.
- 49% of all Americans admit to watching too much television.
These numbers are astounding and are proof that there is TV addiction in America. Remember that this is not just relegated to the United States, but all of the statistics that were just mentioned are all American statistics. It is because of this that we can assess that there is far too much television watching in this country. It makes you wonder what is happening to the youth of our culture. These children are glued to the tube watching the latest and greatest episode of whatever program it may be. Another issue that can crop up is the fact that it is extremely difficult to screen television when it is on so much. So we should take caution when we are allowing our children to veg out in front of the television.

We all need a little help from time to time, and help with medical bills is a subject that is no different than any other debt there is. The debt from medical bills can be astronomical if you are not on any medical insurance and it is a very dangerous way to accumulate a lot of debt. Worry not though! There are several different ways that you can get medical bill help.
Here are a few ways that might help you out:
- Finding A Program That Can Help: This seems like an obvious solution, but there are many different programs that exist to help those people who cannot handle the debt that they have incurred. Many pharmaceutical companies offer patients discounted or free prescription medications. Some of these discounts come in the form of discount cards and medications from regional and national non-profit organizations. What if you already have health insurance? There is help available for consolidation practices for debt that has been incurred.
- Free Healthcare Programs: Low-income families that do not have insurance may qualify for the free healthcare programs that exist in this country for that very specific reason. Resources that public and private organizations alike provide are given to those families that qualify to receive assistance in order to help with the debt that can become a financial burden for those people who have low-income. These programs include vision care, dental procedures.
- Clinics: The sole purpose of a clinic is to be able to provide simple healthcare related services to those who are less fortunate with free services that include mental health and dental services. Within this section is another section that are known as health care centers that can help patients of all income levels fill prescriptions at low costs.
- Walgreen’s: Believe it or not, Walgreen’s offers free health care to the patients they have who lose their job and have no other health coverage. This is part of their ‘Take Care’ clinic system.
- HRSA (Federal Government Health Resources and Services Administration): This program helps with dental and medical services whether you have insurance or not. Free checkups prescriptions and treatment are all available to you through these programs.
- State Government Medical Assistance Programs: These programs are state generated and are better known as Medical and Medicare. These programs tend to focus on seniors and families with children.
- Federal Government Medical Assistance Programs: These kinds of programs are in place for veterans and military personnel and their families. The VA Medical Care Hardship Program can provide the help any veteran needs.
- In-Store Clinics: Major retailers like CVS, Walgreen’s and Walmart stores all provide medical assistance for anyone who is struggling to get the medication or prescription they need. There is no issue going into any one of these locations looking for assistance because there truly is help out there for anyone who is looking for it, and these major retailers are willing to assist.
These are just a few ways to receive help with medical billing. A lot of these issues can come down to pride and not feeling comfortable enough to ask for help. The way the economy is right now we all need a little help, and the reason why we all pay taxes is in order to help dole out a share to those people who are struggling with the financial aspects and the harsh realities of life. So if you are struggling with any issues when it comes to medical bills; remember there is help out there for those who are in need of it.
